Motorola Walkie Talkies - Save The World With Technology

Remember back in the day when you lurked, hid, and tore around your home in search of secret trap doors and new hiding places? Yeah, that’s right; you were on a mission. A mission with your siblings to decrypt rare ancient codes and solve numerical enigmas that only you could fathom. Of course you all couldn’t be in the same place at the same time, so you used the most advanced technology to date. I’m talking about a couple of Dixie cups with some string connected between them. Well, do you remember? Okay, so maybe it was just me and my brother who played that game. However, you can now all rest safely in your beds at night, because we did indeed save the world from mass destruction. Anyway, these days we have slightly more advanced technology when it comes to two-way radios. I’m talking about Motorola walkie talkies, folks. These babies are SWEET. (more…)

Paper Towels - A Bridge Across Generations

When I was a kid, I thought a paper towel was worth more than its weight in gold. This slice of soft paper was something that sat up upon the shelf, but was never to be touched. Have a spill? Use a rag to wipe it up. Need to wipe your face? Don’t you know that is what cloth towels are for? My mother was a paper towel tyrant, and today, we have a good laugh about it. Back then, however, she was dead serious about it, as you just don’t waste paper towels. (more…)

Roger Waters: Troubled, But Still In The Pink

There are some rock gods who do not strut about, do scissor jumps or crowd surf. Roger Waters is one of them. He’s no oil painting and he doesn’t attract the attention of the paparazzi. He transcends all of this and holds his place in history as one of the greatest songwriters of all time. His lyrics are especially admired, for their ability to explore emotions.

The mid 1960s brought an explosion of psychedelic color when rock music mirrored the effects of hallucinogenic drugs. Pink Floyd were an influential part of that scene. There were casualties of course, including Roger’s colleague, founding member Syd Barrett. The band survived the departure of Syd and went on to become a global phenomenon, thanks largely to the songwriting contributions of Roger Waters and the melodic guitar of Dave Gilmour. (more…)

Chosen People Ministries

A chosen people ministry is basically any ministry targeted towards the Jewish people. Chosen people ministries are especially important to us Christians because of the role that the Jewish people play in God’s plan. You see, before Jesus came around, Jews were the sole chosen people of God. That means that they were special in God’s eyes and that all of the Lord’s promises were made specifically to them. In the eyes of a Christian, Jews are the traditional chosen people, whereas Christians are sort of God’s adopted family. By bringing the Gospel of Jesus to the Jews, chosen people ministries give them the gift of salvation and help them to return to the house of God.

Patricia Cornwell’s Books - Her Success Is No Mystery

Patricia Cornwell’s books are not only fascinating and ultimately satisfying reads, they are a testament to what good authorship and persistence in the face of rejection will do.

According to Birger Nielsen, who has compiled a bibliographical biography (or a biographical bibliography?) discussing Patricia Cornwell’s books in the context of Cornwell’s writing history, several factors point to the author’s success: for example, after writing a sold-out and now hard-to-find first work, a biography of evangelist Billy Graham’s wife, Ruth Bell Graham, Cornwell penned three more works — taking for material her work in a medical examiner’s office and as a volunteer policewoman. These three Patricia Cornwell books were first rejected, and would never have made it to press had it not been for the supportive advice of one of the kinder publishers, who recommended Cornwell forego the male protagonist and develop the more marginal female character, Kay Scarpetta (who would become the star of what is now called Cornwell’s Scarpetta series). A Christmas Gift For The Office: Dos and Don’ts

Finding a Christmas gift for the office poses many challenges. First of all you want to consider who is working in the area. Some people celebrate other holidays during this season while others prefer not to celebrate Christmas at all. It is important to take everyone into consideration.

Many workplaces welcome a Christmas gift for the office while others prefer to avoid making a big deal out of the religious holiday. Considering the atmosphere will help you decide if giving a Christmas gift for the office is a good idea in the first place. (more…)

A Gift For Your Children - Musical Instruments

One of the best ways to encourage your kids to be creative and develop their imaginations is to get the children musical instruments. Kids musical instruments are, in many cultures, an indispensable part of growing up. It is thought in some places that growing up without music is almost just like growing up without a soul. Buying your children musical instruments, and helping them to learn them is one of the most important things that you can do as a parent. But of course, buying childrens musical instruments is not enough in itself. (more…)
