You’ve probably had a blood drive at your school or workplace, and you may even have given blood and gotten one of the nifty little stickers. It’s a good feeling, being able to help someone you don’t know via your donation. However, you can only safely donate blood once every few months, and some people are unnerved by the side effects. Do you play sports? This is probably one of the greatest concepts known to man. After all, can you really name too many individuals that don’t like sports? Don’t forget that there are oodles to choose from. Just because you’re not a basketball or hockey fan, doesn’t mean that you dislike sports altogether. There are other aspects that many people forget or dismiss. Take swimming, weight training and snow boarding to name a few. Are any of these are your priority list? Well, one thing about sports that seems to be fairly common is the fact that they all require some kind of equipment. Not that it amounts to a lot, but there’s usually something. If you live in the northern United States, you have to worry about heating your home each winter. As gas prices skyrocket, many homeowners and renters alike worry about finding an affordable alternative. When it costs upwards of 400 dollars to heat a small two-bedroom apartment, you have every right to be concerned about what your heating bills might be during a very cold winter. There seem to be fewer and fewer “morning people” these days. I am definitely not one myself. Making an entire pot of coffee is a big waste in my home because I get up as late as I possibly can in the morning. I rarely have time for more than one serving of the all important morning brew. I chose to purchase a single cup coffee maker to use throughout the week and the purchase was very wise. (more…)

Romantic gestures are very welcome, and I don’t believe any woman who says otherwise. We all like to receive gifts from our partners. Sending flowers may not be very original but it’s still guaranteed to make me feel warm and fuzzy. It’s a generational thing too. Men used to be embarrassed to walk into a florist shop and were accused of having done something they were feeling guilty about if they bought flowers for their lady. Now, sending flowers is commonplace and you don’t have to step inside a florist anymore. You can order flowers online or get them from the supermarket or gas station. (more…)

Are you finished with the whole tanning bed scene? That concept is not only old, it’s just plain tired. Cancer in a box! It’s as simple as that. Do you really want to continue paying money to acquire skin cancer and a leathery face? Hey, I know; you could audition for that new Chainsaw Massacre flick in a few years. I’m sure they will come out with something. They always do. Wouldn’t it be great being Leather Face? You’d be a star. Oh, what was that? You don’t find that complimentary? There was a time, in the not so distant past, when most people shuddered at the thought of submitting their tax returns. All of them were worried about how they would be taxed and how much they would have to pay the IRS. But more than anything else, most of these people found the thought of queuing up to file their returns the most daunting aspect of the exercise.
All that disappeared however when the concept of online tax returns came into the picture. While the agony of determining and paying income tax still remains and will never ever disappear completely, the convenience that online tax returns offer will take away or at least numb some of the pain associated with filing your returns.
Most income tax departments have gone the online tax returns way. In fact, whether it is a developed country (or the first world as it is better known) or a developing country, governments all over the world have found that they are better able to collect taxes when the adopt online tax returns as a way for people to process their taxation related activities. Of course, in some of the developing countries, credit card usage is still in its infancy and the program can therefore not be implemented to its fullest potential. But that too is changing. More and more banks now offer a debit card alternative to a credit card. This has opened up the market to a greater number of consumers.
Filing online tax returns also has another; more useful role to play. It enables the creation and dissemination of digital data, the likes of which government bodies can use to map against the list of known income earners. In the earlier days, before online tax returns made an appearance, all taxation related records were manually provided. Yes! This is true even of the developed economies. The biggest flaw with this kind of system is that it did not allow the IRS or allied agency to easily compare the list of income earners with the list of those who had filed their returns. Now with the digitization of information, not only is it possible for agencies to process and compare the information, it also allows them to adopt best practices like periodic newsletters and reminder services to provide their customers with up to date information.
