When Steaks Need Steak Sauce

I suspected that he might have been on to something with that statement. The ones my stepfather always cooked were well done, and always a little dry. Though they were fine, I had no idea that I was using the steak sauce because the meat was overdone and dried out. He said that if I had a steak that was done properly it would be a sin to put the sauce on it, and that he had to take me home to have one that his dad did on the grill outside. When I first had a steak with his family I discovered that this type of meat should never be cooked all the way though.

That is part of the reason that we had this competition. All of us grew up in a small, rural town where all you could get were Hershey’s, and Mars bars. The world finest chocolate never made its way there at all. I thought milk chocolate was as good as it got, and it could get pretty good. Nevertheless, I was unaware of what luxuries I was missing. That is, until one day I tried a Belgian chocolate. I practically started shaking. It was really that good.

Beware of Nuts Hidden in Food

It also always helps to be prepared by watching the types of foods that you are eating.

Never eat something with nuts and if you know you have a problem, pay attention to the ingredients on the label.  You would be surprised with where many of the foods that we eat, have nuts hidden somewhere in the ingredients.

The first thing that you’re going to need to avoid,  is any food that is prepared at the same place where nuts are in existence.  For example, a scoop of ice cream may seem like something that is perfectly harmless but the same scoop is also used in order to dish out the pistachio ice cream.

The same is also true of candies that are made at a candy shop and also in many factories.  This is what is known as cross contamination and it presents a real danger for those of us that have a problem with nut allergies.

Have You Tasted Buffalo Meat?

Although you can use buffalo meat interchangeably with beef, there are many recipes that specifically call for buffalo. Buffalo meat recipes take advantage of the fact that buffalo is a little bit leaner and stronger in flavor than beef. Because of that, it adds a lot more flavor than even beef does.

You can use it to great effect in buffalo meat loaf, But that is not my favorite recipe. My favorite use of bison meat is in buffalo meat steaks. For many people, buffalo steaks are too gamy and strongly flavored, but to my taste buds, they are just simply perfect.
